Snakes

Snakes are limbless reptiles with moist, scaly skin, toothed jaws, no ear openings or eyelids and a single row of belly scales. They move by contracting their muscles in waves and undulating over the ground. All are carnivorous and swallow their prey whole. They flick their tongues in and out constantly to ‘taste’ and ‘smell’ the air around them. Most continue to grow in length during their life and shed their outer skin periodically. The vast majority are harmless to humans.
