Western Tanager

Yellow bird with a red head and a dark back. Females are yellowish with a gray back; some female morphs also have a gray belly and breast. All have two light wing bars.

Comments

Common near wooded picnic areas. Call is a slurred – pit-ick, pit-ick. The all-red summer tanager (P. rubra) is common in woodlands during summer months.
